BEYOND CONVENTIONAL ULTRASOUND IMAGING: SUPER-RESOLUTION, FUNCTIONAL AND MOLECULAR IMAGING USING ACOUSTIC WAVES
Classical ultrasound techniques offer an image of the morphology of tissues. In this talk we will review new ultrasound imaging techniques that allow, while simultaneously capturing its morphology, to obtain information of the molecular and functional processes that take place inside the human body. We will review functional imaging techniques with ultrasound that allow for real-time functional brain imaging; super-resolution ultrasound that allows for imaging beyond the Rayleigh diffraction limit; photoacoustic techniques that mix laser and ultrasound beams to produce molecular imaging, as well as hybrid techniques that mix magnetic and ultrasound fields to produce advanced diagnostic images.
