EXAMPLES OF THE VERSATILITY OF MRI: CAPSULES TO TRACK INTESTINAL MOVEMENTS; 3D THERMOMETRY FOR HYPERTHERMIA TREATMENT; PERMANENT MAGNETS FOR LOW/ULTRA-LOW MRI SYSTEMS
MRI machines are known as being large expensive devices that can generate structural images of the human body. However, the NMR phenomena can be used to go beyond generating static structural images, and does not need to be constrained to costly infrastructure. During this talk, Rubén Pellicer-Guridi will present some examples of his work on less conventional MRI methods and systems. In particular, he will be talking about using 19F capsules to gain insight in human digestive movements; using magnetic resonance thermometry to guide radio frequency hyperthermia treatments; and developing more affordable and portable MRI systems that use permanent magnets to produce images at low/ultra-low static magnetic fields.
Ruben has recently joined the MRI-lab, at the I3M. His experience in different MRI research areas has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of potentials of this valuable technology and their associated challenges. He is particularly interested on providing MRI with new capabilities and finding ways to make MRI more affordable to bring its benefits to more people.
